Multifactor Authentication (MFA) Setup
MVNU has MFA set up by default for all accounts used by and for the University. By setting up Multi-factor Authentication, you add an extra layer of security to your account. It requires you to sign in with your password utilize an authentication app on your phone.
Step-by-step guide
To set up Multifactor Authentication (MFA) for your account follow these steps:
Note: Multifactor Authentication must first be enabled for your account before you can complete the following setup.
For New Accounts
Sign in to Office 365, from a computer not a phone, with your work or school account here: Office 365. After you choose Sign in, you'll see this page:
Choose Next and then you will be directed to use the Microsoft Authenticator app.
Download the App on your mobile device. For iOS the link is here. For Android the link is here.
Click “Next” and it should direct you to this screen:
While waiting for the app to install, on your computer, click “Next” which should take you to a screen similar to this (with its own unique QR code)
Once downloaded, open the app follow the on-screen instructions:
Click the “+” sign in the top-right corner.
Select “Work or School account”
Click on “Scan QR Code” when the box pops up.
Using the phone, while on the camera screen (as seen below), center the QR code on the computer screen in the frame of the phone’s camera.
You’re Done! Now, when signing into your Microsoft account, you’ll be prompted to open the authenticator app and either type in a code, click approve or select a number that corresponds with what’s shown on your screen.
