NEW VPN login changes - Spring 2024

NOTE: ITS will be transitioning everyone to the new VPN login experience Spring of 2024. These instructions only apply for those who have been migrated. The Old VPN process will be deprecated April 1st, 2024.

Important:
VPN is not available outside of the US due to GDPR and other security limitations imposed by outside nations.

If you already have the VPN client, continue to the next step. If you do not, please see this article on downloading the VPN client: VPN Install & Setup - Knowledge Base - Confluence (atlassian.net)

The following instructions work for Mac OS or Windows with the Forticlient already installed.

  1. With the Forticlient open, click on the 3 lines next to the VPN connection you’ve already configured as shown below.

    1. NOTE: If your Forticlient does not have this option, please follow these instructions to uninstall your Forticlient and update to the new version.

  2. Select “edit the selected connection.”

  3. In the next window, select the option “Enable Single Sign On (SSO) for VPN Tunnel” as shown:

  4. NOTE: For a faster VPN login experience, check the box that says “Use external browser as user-agent for saml user authentication.” This will prompt you less often the next time you login.

  5. Click “Save.”

  6. The login should change to show a “SAML Login” option or on Windows clients it may just say “Connect.”

  7. Click the SAML Login (for Mac) or Connect (for Windows).

  8. Follow the normal process for our MVNU Single Sign On login experience, like we typically see in most applications, by entering your full username@mvnu.edu. You should still see the MVNU Microsoft logo and login experience at this point, which is what SAML uses. As shown below:

  9. Once the complete login is processed, including the MFA prompt, a connection status should pop up showing that the connection is made and working.

Please contact us if you have any issues or questions related to the new VPN experience.
