Sophos Fix

Sometime early in 2025, Sophos made a change to their permissions requirements and now require added full-disk access permissions. These instructions (and screenshots) should help walk you through the process of adding these new permissions.

  1. Computers affected with this issue have Sophos in a red error state (see screenshot)

  1. Before getting started,

    1. Click the Apple logo at the top-left of the screen

    2. Select “System Settings”

    3. Scroll down and select “Privacy & Security”

    4. Click “Full Disk Access”

    5. Leave that window open as-is and move on to Sophos steps

  2. Click on the Sophos icon and select “Open Endpoint Self Help…”

  1. Which should take you to this page.

  1. Click on “Prerequisites” and “Allow Full Disk Access” in the middle of the right-hand page.

  1. When the new window pops up, drag the Sophos shield icon from this window into the system settings - Privacy & Security window you left open from step 2 and release over the list of apps listed in “Full Disk Access” (see screenshot)

  1. Type in an Administrator password (if this is your computer, your password should have administrative access) and click “Modify Settings.”

  2. You will then be notified that the change won’t work until Sophos is quit and Reopen. Select this option.

You’ll also notice the “Self Help” window for Sophos as well as the icon in the system tray is no longer red.

  1. You can now close the “System Settings” window.

  2. You may close the “Self Help” window.

  3. Done.

  4. Notify the user that they should pay attention to the Sophos shield icon in the system tray and contact us if it ever turns red in the future.
