Sending Encrypted or Confidential emails are a good way to limit access to an email or secure the email from being intercepted by unwanted parties. These instructions will help you when sending email to any Faculty, Staff, or Student.

\uD83D\uDCD8 Instructions for Outlook on Windows

  1. Compose an email, including recipients, subject, and body.

  2. Before sending, click on the “options” tab in Outlook.

  3. Click on the “Encrypt” drop-down as seen:

  4. Choose the method you want to send the email in.

    1. Encrypt-Only - does not restrict the email but your message stays encrypted and doesn’t leave Microsoft 365 (where MVNU email is hosted).

    2. Do Not Forward - Encrypts the email and puts restrictions that don’t allow the recipient to forward the message without your permission to anyone else, inside or outside MVNU.

    3. Mount Vernon Nazarene University - Confidential - encrypts the email and marks it with a Confidential message. This allows the recipients to modify the message but they cannot copy or print it. NOTE: This is the option you will want so the recipients can reply back to the message.

    4. Mount Vernon Nazarene University - Confidential View Only - This is the most restrictive as this option does not allow the recipients to reply back, forward, copy, print or modify the message.

  5. HINT: Add any additional options to the message before sending, such as a read or delivery receipt so you know that the message was delivered and/or read.

  6. When finished, send the email.
