If you call into the Helpdesk experiencing issues, a technician may ask what operating system your computer is running. We ask this question because certain issues happen within certain operating systems. 

 

MacOS

What is MacOS?

Mac OS is the operating system that runs on Macintosh computers.  The MacOS has been around since the first Macintosh was introduced in 1984. Since then, it has been continually updated and many new features have been added to it. Each major OS release is signified by a new number (i.e. MacOS 8, MacOS 9).

Where is MacOS used on campus?

Mac OS is not used nearly as much as Windows on campus.  Most of the MacOS devices are in the Mac labs.  Some departments on campus (IT, Art, Marketing, and Education) use a good number of Mac devices. 




Windows

What is Windows?

Windows is a series of operating systems developed by Microsoft. Each version of Windows includes a graphical user interface, with a desktop that allows users to view files and folders in windows. For the past two decades, Windows has been the most widely used operating system for personal computers (PCs).

Where is Windows used on campus?

Windows is the main operating system used at MVNU.  All teaching stations are Windows computers, as well as most labs, general use computers, employee computers, and printing stations.  With that being said there are a couple of Mac labs on campus, and some departments and/or specific users have Mac devices we also try to include Macs at every general use lab and print station, but the majority of computers are windows devices.  We are currently using Windows 10 campus-wide.
