Account Information
Each student has an MVNU account created that allows them access to several resources on campus.
Portal
E-mail (Microsoft)
WiFi
Moodle
The account has been established with a default (temporary) password as well as multi-factor authentication (MFA for short) which must be set up for security.
MFA (multi-factor authentication)
Before you do anything else, you should sit down at a computer and go through the MFA setup. Once finalized, MFA will provide a second layer of protection for your account so that not only a password is required to sign in when off campus. Due to repeated security issues, the need to institute MFA across campus has become standard and is shared among most businesses & universities.
Password
After getting your MFA set up, we recommend going and changing your password to something easier for you to remember. Visit password.mvnu.edu and you should be able to follow the directions to change your password using the new MFA solution you just finished.
ITS Recommends utilizing a passphrase and not simply a password. Combining several unrelated words, when coupled with the password requirements make for an unbreakable account.

Security
MVNU’s ITS department takes security seriously. We’ve had multiple experiences with people attempting to penetrate our network for nefarious reasons and we’ve established several services, personnel, and policies to help protect MVNU and its' technology. More information about information security can be found on our security article which can be found here.
WiFi
ITS provides WiFi in all buildings and a large amount of green-spaces across campus. We also have a staff of students whose entire job is monitoring the network for problems, and working with students to ensure they are able to connect and stay connected without problems. Since WiFi is such a major resource for use on campus, we have several articles on it that can be found below:
How Wi-Fi Works - Knowledge Base - Confluence (atlassian.net)
Roaming and Roaming Problems - Knowledge Base - Confluence (atlassian.net)
Connecting to the Wi-Fi and Splash Pages - Knowledge Base - Confluence (atlassian.net)
Approved / Problematic Devices for Campus Use - Knowledge Base - Confluence (atlassian.net)
Microsoft Office
Microsoft provides MVNU’s constituency with the full Office365 solution which includes not only access to email but also the full MS Office suite free included while a student. Accessing your email directly by visiting http://mymail.mvnu.edu or by accessing the Office Portal.
NOTE: When signing in please use your full email address (jondoe@mail.mvnu.edu) and not simply the username (jondoe)
OneDrive
As a subset of Microsoft Office’s suite, MVNU provides cloud storage to all employees and students to minimize the possibility of losing any information. ITS recommends saving to these sources exclusively to prevent any loss of data in the event of a computer crash, theft, or any other unforeseen circumstance.
OneDrive is the file repository that can be mapped to your existing computer, documents, pictures, etc… Information in detail can be found in various articles in the knowledge base regarding accessing, navigating, etc but we recommend you start here in setting it up.
Commonly Used Websites
Portal
MVNU centralizes a large portion of our documentation and paperwork on a website (called the Portal) which can be visited at portal.mvnu.edu. This site includes pages for nearly every department on campus which can be found under the “menu” at the top left of the page (just under the MVNU logo).
Information on navigating it and different features can be found on our Portal KB Article.
Moodle
Our Learning Management System, or online classroom is done through a program called Moodle. It can be found by visiting courses.mvnu.edu or clicking on the link found on the Portal. Moodle is the primary source where academic work (syllabus, assignments, homework, etc) are shared between professor and students. Several articles about Moodle, its function, and navigation have been created and can be accessed via this link.
The most common method of communication on campus, email, is housed/managed by Microsoft through their Outlook client. It can be accessed on your computer, through the web, and even set up on your phone. Instructions for each can be found here.
Report Phishing
For any emails you receive that seem risky, ITS requests you report them to us so we can confirm/refute their legitimacy and so we can monitor for similar (or the same) emails across all the other accounts. There is a button added to every email account in the toolbar that looks like the example here to the right. Clicking this button will remove the email from your inbox and flag it for our cybersecurity team to evaluate.
